Assemb. Obernolte Introduces Veteran Designation D. L. Fee Waiver

Sacrarmento – This Monday, Assemblyman Obernolte (R-Hesperia) introduced a bill offering a fee waiver to all veterans who are applying for a veteran designation on their driver’s licenses.

“Veterans are a distinguished group of men and women who have made many sacrifices to serve our country and protect our freedom. Waiving this fee is just a small way to show our gratitude for all they have done,” Assemblyman Obernolte said. “It’s outrageous that we should ask any veteran to pay a fee for the recognition that they have already earned through their sweat and blood. This bill will ensure that they receive the recognition they deserve.”

AB 21 will provide that all veterans are exempt from the fee to have a “veteran” designation placed on their driver’s license or identification card. The veteran designation allows veterans to access veteran benefits as well as utilize veteran discounts without needing to carry their discharge papers (DD-214), an important official military document.

Assemblyman Jay Obernolte represents the 33rd Assembly District, which includes the San Bernardino County communities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Baker, Barstow, Big Bear City, Big Bear Lake, Big River, Crestline, Fort Irwin, Hesperia, Johnson Valley, Lake Arrowhead, Lenwood, Lucerne Valley, Needles, Oak Hills, Phelan, Running Springs, Silver Lakes, Trona, Twentynine Palms Base, Twin Peaks and Victorville.
