Rose Parade: Viewing Events And Volunteer Float Decorating

Simone Graham – Editor: Look for more HDG articles this weekend for information on safety do’s and don’ts, TV broadcasts, parade route, map, etc. This is one of our favorite times of the year and we hope it is for you, too. The Rose Parade is a proud Southern California tradition enjoyed worldwide. Use this information to jump in and get involved now or consider volunteering, viewing events, or New Year’s Day attendance for your family for next year.

Rose Parade
Before and after the Rose Parade there are many activities such as float decorating and viewing. On New Year’s Day, people from all over the world come to Pasadena to attend and participate in the Rose Parade. The Rose Parade will be celebrating its 130th year of pageantry – a festival of flowers, marching bands, and equestrians. It’s America’s New Year’s Celebration.

This year’s theme is “The Melody of Life”. The theme encourages creativity in the float entries such as the float entries, marching bands, and the equestrian participants. “The 2019 theme, ‘The Melody of Life,’ celebrates music, the universal language,” explained Gerald Freeny, the 2019 President of the Tournament of Roses. He goes on to say, “Music has the power to not only bring us together but take us back to memories and moments as nothing else can. Rhythm, melody, harmony and color all come together to create the soundtrack that defines our lives.”

Float Viewing
Watch the majestic floats come together. Volunteers and float builders apply a variety of fruit, seeds, bark, grasses, and of course, breathtaking flowers. Advanced tickets are available for three public viewing locations. Times are allocated for general public viewing, including tour operators. Order your tickets through Sharp Seating or same-day tickets may be available. Considerable waiting periods should be expected.
